The Festival Of Sustainable Homes!
A brand new family-friendly show is coming to NSBRC in May, focused around creating sustainable homes and communities. With the environment at the heart of what we do, Total Home Environment will naturally be participating!
This event will provide visitors with the latest information and advice on improving both the comfort and energy efficiency of new builds and existing homes.
Offering two days of education with over 200 exhibits, seminars, live demonstrations and experts to talk to about your project and gather information that will inspire and help you!
Each day there will be:
- Guided educational tours
- Presentations
- Free 1:1 Expert Advice
- Discover Nature Zone and more!

Whether your motivation is saving the environment or saving money, the programme of Eco Workshops should have the answers you’re looking for! You should gain a wealth of independent and informed advice and information on the latest energy-efficient technologies, products and services; sustainability; environmentally responsible building principals and retrofitting of existing properties.
Each of the Eco Workshops focuses on a particular phase or aspect of energy-efficient homebuilding, so you can pick and choose which workshops to attend that are most relevant to your particular project.

Industry experts will be on hand throughout the day to provide you with the opportunity to discuss your green ideas, designs and any plans you have for your home. One-to-one appointments will be available to book in the main piazza.
Experts will explain the options available to people considering eco technologies for their homes and advise on everything from achieving air tightness, insulation requirements and design considerations, to heating ventilation and solar technologies. This is your opportunity to get the facts straight from the experts, hear what’s happening with government incentives, and understand the green investment opportunities different technologies offer, so you can balance upfront costs with the long-term savings they may provide.

Open all year round this department store for self-builders and renovators brings together 67,000sqft of products, services and advice all under one roof. No longer will you be restricted to particular show dates when you can come and see our products. Check out this video on what to expect.No longer will you be fighting crowds… you can wander at your leisure or on a Friday and Sunday there are guided tours of the Renovation House and a Self Build Educational Tour each Saturday. Once you register, you will be given a barcode scanner, to easily request specific information on the products that are of interest to you. Why not bring your architect or builder along as well and whilst relaxing in the café (Open 10am-3pm), discuss the design of your dream home with all the materials to hand?
A typical visit will take about three to four hours and the following exhibits can be visited:

- Professional Services Hub
- Trade Village - T.H.E are located at stand 58 (PKOM 4, HPV Series, Pichler LG350 & Beam Central Vacuum)

 LOCATION
Located just off J16 of the M4 at Swindon, the store is open 10am -5.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and until 4.30pm on Sunday. Parking is free and there is overflow parking behind the centre if the front area is full. If you would like to spend more time there over a few days, there are plenty of hotels and guest houses nearby. In addition there is a Coffee Shop on site, serving hot and cold drinks and light snacks.
ENTRY
This is free unless attending a course or turning up at the door for shows. Do bring your own headphones if you want to listen to the audio tour on your smartphone and a mask.

These workshops lift the lid on eco issues and cut through the 'greenwash'. Each event has its own theme:
- eco design, planning & sustainability
- building systems & project managment
- heat and energy options
- retrofit eco solutions
We will be attending some of these and available for bookable one-to-one appointments and as part of the Expert Panel, presenting a seminar.

PASSIVHAUS WORKSHOP

The Passivhaus standard is designed to deliver comfort, quality and lower running costs in any type of building. In partnership with the Passivhaus Trust You will learn how to do this through building orientation to take advantage of the sun, the right insulative fabrics, airtightness principles, wholehouse heat recovery ventilation for good indoor air-quality and screening to prevent overheating.

The Build It House is a pioneering real-life self build designed as an educational tool that will give self-builders a unique insight into the process of creating their own bespoke home.
Build It wanted to make sure that they were bringing their readers the very best advice and ideas – whether that’s in the magazine, online or at their live shows. They thought what better way could there be to do that, than to build their own home.
The Build It Education house, although beautifully-finished, isn't just a show home, but an innovative education space that gives self-builders a unique insight into the process of self building.
From the earliest sketch designs through to core structural decisions and the final snagging checks, they have shared the detailed journey of how a home building project goes together. Not just the highs, but the lows and most valuable lessons they learned along the way.

Potton, the UK's leading self build company has built a new show home which is built to PassivHaus standards on their show home centre in St Neots Cambridgeshire. It's open to the public Monday to Saturday.

OUR PRODUCTS
When building such an airtight and well insulated home, some sort of balanced mechanical ventilation is required, without losing heat. Total Home Environment were asked to help.Our systems are naturally hidden within the PassivHaus, however you will be able to see our equipment running, specifically you will be able to see:
- Genvex heat recovery ventilation - unit in plant room, ceiling terminals in the rooms, controller next to the kitchen on the wall and intake and exhaust cowls at the back of the house
- Electrolux central vacuum system - unit in plant room, four vacuum inlet points around the house, a VacPan automatic dustpan in the plinth of the kitchen plinth
- Aero air to water heat pump running the domestic hot water (hot water fromt the taps)
- low grade electric underfloor heating - the controllers for the bathroom, ensuites and 1m strip adjacent to the patio doors.
